4-year-old girl dies after being found in trash can full of water, reports say

(Gray News) - A 4-year-old Georgia girl has died after she was found unresponsive inside a trash can filled with water and fish over the weekend, authorities said.

Deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Macon home shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release.

According to an incident report, the girl’s father told deputies he had just arrived home and could not find his daughter, Jayde Wooten, in her bedroom. He woke the child’s mother, who said the girl had been eating in the kitchen when she fell asleep, WGXA reported.

The father searched the house and asked neighbors outside if they had seen the child. Moments later, he heard the mother scream and ran back inside to find Jayde upside down in a large trash can filled with water and fish inside a bathroom.

The father pulled the girl from the container and carried her outside. The responding deputy noted puddles of water leading from the bathroom to the front door, along with the container filled with water and fish inside the restroom.

Neighbors rushed to help perform CPR before first responders arrived. Jayde was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing.
