Schools delayed in Montevallo after storms knocked down trees, power lines Tuesday evening

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (WBRC) - Storm damage in Shelby County Tuesday night has led to the University of Montevallo and Montevallo schools changing their schedule Wednesday.

After initially announcing classes would be delayed two hours, university officials later announced that students, faculty and staff will move to e-learning and remote work Wednesday.

The change was made to give space for cleanup crews and utility workers to clear debris.

Meanwhile, Montevallo Elementary, Middle and High Schools are all operating on a two-hour delay Wednesday.

Buses will run their normal route, just two hours delayed.

In a post to social media Tuesday night, Montevallow Elementary School let parents know that breakfast will not be served Wednesday morning due to the delay.

Crews were out Wednesday morning cleaning up trees and powers lines across the area.

Mayor Rusty Nix told WBRC’s Russell Jones that there were no serious injuries in the storms. He said they’re going to do their best to have the debris cleared out Wednesday.
