Winner of $167 million Powerball arrested for the 5th time since big win

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT/Gray News) — A Kentucky man who claimed a $167 million lottery prize last year was arrested for the fifth time since his big win.

According to court records, 51-year-old James Farthing was arrested in the parking lot of a Walmart in Georgetown, Kentucky, early Sunday morning.

Officers said a person reported seeing a white Ford Mustang with a temporary tag sitting in the middle of an intersection before it turned into the Walmart parking lot and parked next to an EV charging station.

According to the arrest citation, officers found the Mustang still running and approached the vehicle. Officers said they found Farthing asleep in the passenger seat.

Officers said that Farthing woke up after they knocked on the window for several minutes and appeared to be intoxicated.

Farthing reportedly told officers that a woman drove him there and dropped him off.

He was charged with public intoxication.

Farthing’s Sunday arrest marked the fifth time he has been arrested since winning the multimillion-dollar jackpot.

In April 2025, Farthing was arrested in Florida on misdemeanor charges of battery and resisting an officer. He pleaded guilty to those charges.

Then, in February of this year, Farthing was arrested on an intimidation charge in Scott County, followed by an arrest on charges that included burglary in March.

Then, on July 27, he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
