Paid an ATM fee? You could be due cash from a $167 million settlement

(CNN) - A proposed $167 million settlement seeks to reimburse people for ATM fees.

Visa and Mastercard were accused of restricting how independent ATMs, like the ones found at gas stations and hotels, set access fees, which in turn meant higher costs for ATM users.

The settlement applies to qualifying withdrawals made between late October 2007 and mid-August.

People have until Feb. 10, 2027, to file a claim.

Visa and Mastercard have agreed to settle, but deny the allegations.
