13-year-old boy found dead in river after trying to rescue his sister, reports say

(Gray News) - A 13-year-old boy in Montana was found dead in the river after trying to rescue his sister, according to officials.

On Thursday, just before 2 p.m., rescue teams found Ephraim Dayley’s body in the Clarks Fork River, according to a press release.

Ephraim was tubing with his sister Wednesday afternoon when the pair got into trouble, Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan told the Billings Gazette.

The sheriff told the publication that Ephraim fell off the tube and couldn’t get back on.

In an update shared with MTN, officials said Ephraim had died while trying to rescue his sister, KPAX reported.

McQuillan said he had fallen off the tube or was attempting to get off, but at some point was struggling to get back.

The sheriff said he tried to save her, and he managed to do that, but she was not able to get him.

“Our condolences go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said.
