Couple accused of leaving child who ate THC gummy for 8 hours to attend LSU game, police say

SCOTT, La. (KATC/Gray News) - A couple in Louisiana is accused of leaving a child who ate a THC gummy for eight hours to attend an LSU game, according to authorities.

On Sept. 13, the Scott Police Department learned a 4-year-old had ingested a THC gummy, police said. Officers learned Mary Cormier and David Butt knew the child had taken the gummy.

However, the couple did not seek medical attention, instead deciding to leave the child in the care of another juvenile so the couple could attend LSU’s football game, Scott police said.

The couple returned home about eight hours later and found the 4-year-old breathing but unresponsive, according to police.

The child was taken to the hospital and, at last check, remains in the ICU.

Mary Cormier and David Butts each face the following counts:

• Second-degree cruelty to juveniles
• Child desertion
• Contributing to the delinquency of juveniles (three counts)
