Man accused of kidnapping a 1-year-old child out of a mother’s Walmart shopping cart, police say

TULSA, Okla. (Gray News) - A man in Oklahoma is accused of kidnapping a 1-year-old child out of a mother’s Walmart shopping cart

Tulsa Police officers responded to a kidnapping report at a Walmart on Tuesday, Sept. 8, around 5:08 p.m., according to a press release.

The mother of the child in question said she was shopping in the store when a man identified as 50-year-old Marshall Dixon came up to her, briefly talked to her about her two children and then took her 1-year-old out of her shopping cart.

He then allegedly put the child in his own shopping cart and started walking away.

The woman told police she quickly confronted the man and took her child back. The mother then locked herself and her children in the store’s bathroom to call for help.

Walmart employees kicked Dixon out of the store and called 911, according to law enforcement.

Officers found “a man matching the suspect’s description” sitting outside the store at a nearby bus stop, police said.

Then, when asked about the alleged abduction, the man said, “Yeah, I did that,” according to the police department.

Dixon was subsequently arrested and booked in the Tulsa County Jail.
