BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A Bessemer man accused of killing a former Park High School coach is back in jail, this time facing federal gun charges.

De’Corlion Keshaun Robinson, 24, was out on bond and in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday stemming from a shooting on Aug. 13. When he was leaving the courthouse, Robinson was taken back into custody by federal officials.

He is now also being charged with one count of possession of a machine gun, US Attorney Prim Escalona announced Wednesday.

In a press release, officials said that Robinson had a Glock 10mm handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device, more commonly called a Glock switch.

Robinson is accused of shooting and killing 39-year-old Demetrice Beverly.

During a preliminary court hearing Wednesday, it was revealed that Robinson suspected his girlfriend of seeing someone else and came home during his lunch break to find Beverly with her.

According to detectives, Robinson said he only intended to fire one shot to scare Beverly, but the gun kept firing.

Robinson’s attorney doesn’t believe his client should be charged with murder.

“I think they should start off with manslaughter,” said Emory Anthony. “You take into consideration what the detective said, he said my client was only trying to frighten the young man, not trying to kill him. So that’s something we’ve got to deal with also.”

Robinson told detectives on the night of the shooting that the Glock switch was installed on the gun when he bought it and he knew what it does.
