Harpersville man dead after Saturday afternoon crash in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A Harpersville man died in a crash Saturday afternoon in Shelby County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened around 1:38 p.m. on Shelby County 51 near Highway 280 in Westover.

ALEA said 70-year-old Joel S. Wallace was critically injured when a car driven by a 16-year-old hit the truck he was driving.

After the initial impact, ALEA said the truck left the roadway, hit utility equipment and overturned. Wallace was not using a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck, authorities said.

Wallace was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but he died on Monday.

ALEA continues to investigate the crash.
