Husband, wife and daughter killed in crash involving tractor-trailers on I-59 in Trussville
TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - A husband, wife and their 5-year-old daughter were killed Tuesday morning in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 59 North in Trussville, officials said.
Trussville Fire Chief Tim Shotts said the wreck happened around 7:15 a.m. July 7 and shut down part of I-59 for several hours. The highway reopened shortly after noon.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 32-year-old Dominque Mariona Butler, 29-year-old Dquarious Marqua Butler and 5-year-old Nailani Butler. The family lived in Liberty, Mississippi.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Dquarious Butler was driving a 1995 379 Peterbilt tractor-trailer when he hit a 2021 Kenworth W900L commercial vehicle driven by someone else. Family said Dquarious Butler hit another tractor-trailer.
ALEA said that Dominique Butler and Nailani Butler died at the scene. Nailani Butler was reportedly not properly restrained. Dquarious Butler was taken to UAB where he died.
An 8-year-old, 2-year-old and 1-year-old were also in the truck with the Butler’s and injured. The coroner confirmed to WBRC that these children were related to the Butler’s. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, their conditions are unknown.
WBRC spoke with one of the couple’s friends, Darrio Clark. Clark served with both Dquarious Butler and Dominque Butler in the Army. He said the two had gotten married almost a decade ago and were inseparable.
Clark described the Butler’s as a beautiful family.
“One thing I can say about Dominque is she was very very sweet, quiet, sweet and just shy, and things like that. I know she loved her husband, and that’s why they were together. They did everything together,” said Clark.
