Bessemer Police say that on Sept. 8, 2021, Hinson attacked Alverner Blanks with a space heater in Blanks’ own house in the 2300 block of Holbrook Terrace. Blanks died from his injuries on Sept. 24, 2021.

According to police, at the time of the beating, Hinson was out on bond for attempted murder and robbery of Blanks as well.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled Blanks’ death a homicide, leading to the capital murder charge. However, in February 2026, Hinson entered a plea deal. She is pleading guilty to a charge of felony murder which will mean 24 years in prison, minus time already served in jail.
