Christina Chambers running family remembers their loving friend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - WBRC continues to remember our friend and former sports reporter Christina Chambers.
She was a big runner and loved her running community. She even competed in the Boston Marathon and other races around the country and world.
Like clockwork, Christina started her day running and making you a better person along the way.
“How kind, how inclusive. She was always so intentional about the other person. She always wanted to make sure you were happy. She always wanted to make sure you were laughing,” Cary Morgan, a friend said.
Some of her best friends and running family talked about her life and the impact she had on everyone she met. She never met a stranger.
“She was just very intentional with that and it wasn’t just small talk. That’s what made her so different. It was because she really wanted to know about you and how you were doing - always, no matter who it was,” Rachel Mitchell, a friend said.
“She was somebody I could call about anything. Our kids were a year apart, so she was a really good mentor in the parenting department. She was like the big sister I never had,” Katie Bass, a friend said.
“Such a positive person and a positive influence on everybody around her. That’s the thing that I will remember the most,” Steven Estrada, a friend said.
“She could make every type run worth being at..so little jokes, little one liners. Just something funny to get everybody laughing,” Katherine Terino, a friend said.
“She was just hilarious. Everyone just kinda gravitated towards her,” Shea Cablan, a friend said.
Christina relied heavily in her Catholic faith and always encouraged everyone around her.
“Life is hard and we all have those ups and downs and she’s been there with me through a lot of ups and downs and was always like, girl, just pray about it and I won’t ever forget that about her,” Lauren Hendrix, another close friend said.
“I’ve been injured for the last couple of weeks and I think we’ve talked every day. She kept me feeling connected because she would reach out, how you doing? Or include me in little jokes or send me an Instagram post,” Billy Rose, a friend said.
Lauren and Steven ran with Christina Tuesday morning not knowing it would be their last run with her.
“She told me this morning, other than goodbye, that I left her for some strides, but we were just talking about how we all have different backgrounds and how despite all of that we’re all such good friends and get along with each other,” Estrada said.
Christina also took part in 5K’s and other runs around central Alabama, including the Mercedes race every year in Birmingham.
Christina’s friends at The Trak Shak posted this on Facebook:
“Such a sad day for this running community and Birmingham! Christina Chambers you will be sorely missed!”
