Man shot, killed outside barbershop identified
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A homicide investigation is underway after a shooting in Birmingham Saturday.
Birmingham Police said just after 4:30 p.m., officers were called to 260 West Valley Avenue on a report of a person shot.
Birmingham Police have identified the man as Jorge Fonseca. He was 34 and lived in Birmingham.
When officers arrived, they found Fonseca lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound outside of a barbershop.
Birmingham Fire and rescue arrived and performed life-saving measures, but he died at the scene of the shooting, police say.
Authorities said early investigations suggest that two men, who knew each other, were involved in an altercation that led to the suspect brandishing a weapon and shooting the victim.
Police stated that the suspect left the scene but was later taken into custody.
Homewood Police confirmed to WBRC that they were also on scene assisting in the investigation.
