Lakeview Circle neighbors still without water supply after nearly two months
SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - More families in the Lakeview Circle community are facing water shortages nearly two months after a drilling project damaged the area’s water supply.
Homeowners say at least three more wells have run dry, now affecting a total of eight homes.
The issue began in February when a drilling company hired by Alabama Power disrupted the underground aquifer.
Although residents have been provided water tanks and receive drinking water deliveries every other day, many say the temporary solutions are not enough.
“We need a permanent fix,” homeowner Tommy Fish said. “Drilling new wells might be a band-aid, but it won’t solve the depletion of our water aquifer.”
Pete Adkins, another affected resident, echoed the concerns.
“We would love to have city water. That way, it would be permanent, and we wouldn’t have to worry anymore,” Adkins said.
Homeowners have taken the issue to court twice, with a judge urging action to repair or re-drill the affected wells.
An Alabama Power spokesperson said the company has completed the drilling and conduit installation for its fiber project in Vandiver and is now working to seal the space around the conduit.
“Once complete, we will fully assess any impacted wells,” the company said in a statement. “We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete these essential infrastructure updates. Due to ongoing litigation, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
Alabama Power emphasized its commitment to the community and said it will remain in contact with affected residents to address their concerns.
