ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - The city of Aliceville is moving closer to housing its police department and volunteer fire department in one building, with the help of federal funding.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell visited Aliceville City Hall Tuesday to announce she secured $1 million toward a new public safety building.

“This new space for Aliceville’s police department and volunteer fire department will help us lower emergency response times and ensure these departments have the resources they need to keep our community safe,” Sewell said.

The police department and volunteer fire department are each housed in separate buildings a few blocks apart. Both serve Aliceville residents and provide support to neighboring communities and agencies.

“We want to commend our volunteer fire department. I want to make sure we put volunteer in front of that because they do not get paid for what they do. But they still fight fires. There’s about 15 to 20 who serve on that team. Then with our police force, we have eight staff members with our police force, including our police chief that responds 24 hours to needs of Aliceville and also Pickens County. And then we also have the federal prison which is nearby. And we provide support staff for them when called upon,” Aliceville Mayor Terrence Windham said.

Windham said he hopes to start construction in spring 2027. Sewell said the building addresses an ongoing need in Aliceville.
