BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - We reached 80° in a few areas today, quite the turnaround from the 40s to start the day. These big 30°+ daily temperature swings will continue due to very dry air in place. Plan for another chilly night ahead with lows back in the 40s. Beautiful fall weather continues Thursday with sunshine and highs nearing 80°. North wind at 5 to 10 mph.

REST OF THE WORKWEEK AND WEEKEND: The very dry pattern continues through the weekend with sunshine Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Highs stay mainly in the 70s Friday, then low to mid-70s Saturday and Sunday as an easterly flow develops. More chilly evenings and cold mornings in the 40s. Overall, a perfect weekend for Talladega, football games, fall festivals, and visits to the pumpkin patch.

LONG RANGE: The drought continues as dry weather holds through the end of the month. We’ll see a few more clouds mix in around mid-next week. Otherwise, 40s at night with highs in the upper 70s through most of next week. Halloween looks dry, with guidance showing lows near 50° and highs in the 70s. Ensemble probabilities are a bit higher today for measurable rain to start November, possibly as early as November 1st, but that’s long-range, so check back for updates. Reminder: we fall back on Sunday, Nov. 1, as Daylight Saving Time ends.

ORIONID METEOR SHOWER: The Orionid Meteor Shower peaks Wednesday night, and conditions will be perfect. Best viewing is late at night through dawn Thursday. Find a dark location, give your eyes time to adjust, and simply look up. We could see 10-20 meteors per hour. Faint meteors may be hard to see due to the brightening moon ahead of the full moon on the Oct. 26.
