Police were called to Jesse Owens Avenue in the Roosevelt neighborhood around 6:20 p.m.

Paramedics said the man died at the scene. He was later identified as Brian Montez Swain, 54, of Birmingham, by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators said Swain and another man got into a verbal argument inside of the home, which then led to shots being fired.

Police said Tuesday evening it was unclear the relationship between Swain, homeowner and suspect.

Swain’s family told WBRC that the home he was shot inside was his friend’s home.

“Our hearts do go out to that victim’s family and the things that they will have to endure with this tragedy that just occurred,” said Officer De’Rell Freeman with BPD. “We can say that our detectives and officers are actively looking, we won’t stop until we find that person.”
