‘Such an honor’: Auburn kicker Alex McPherson feeling proud to represent Auburn at SEC Media Days

TAMPA, Fla. (WBRC) - It’s not everyday that you see a non-offensive or defensive player at SEC Media Days, but that was the case Tuesday when Auburn kicker Alex McPherson stepped up to the podium in Tampa.

McPherson said he was a little shocked when head coach Alex Golesh asked him to join him at Media Days, but said it was an honor to be asked to represent the Tigers.

“I was kind-of shocked, you know, I don’t think many kickers or punters get to do this. I was honored, you know, just so grateful to be able to come, that he would trust me to represent this team.”

McPherson said Golesh told him that he has earned the honor to represent the Tigers as the two have grown closer over the spring.

“He told me that I deserved it. Building that relationship with Coach Golesh, I’ve gotten to really know him and his family over these past few months since he’s gotten there. It’s just such an honor.. coming from him especially. He holds the players to a high, high standard and being able to represent us here is such an honor.”
