‘Really fun, really exciting’: Auburn kicker Alex McPherson feeling healthy, confident ahead of 2026 season
TAMPA, Fla. (WBRC) - Auburn placekicker Alex McPherson is feeling like himself again after falling ill two seasons ago.
McPherson was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis in 2024 and had to have surgery to have his large intestine removed.
Now, two years later, McPherson said he is feeling good and ready to be on the field and healthy for the second straight season.
“Yeah it’s been really fun, really exciting. Just to be back to normal and where I was, just to have that strength back to kind-of kick like I want to and used to. Think I’m kicking as good as I have since before I got sick and it’s just really exciting getting to do that and play with the guys to the fullest extent.”

When asked about what his kicking range is now, McPherson said he is ready for whatever the coaching staff asks him to do.
“I would say whatever they really need me out there for, I think can do at this point. We kicked yesterday (Monday) before I actually got on the plane to come here, we made a 60-yarder as a unit. Wherever you need me at this point, I think at this point I’m confident in from kicking distance wise, just excited to have that strength back.”
Auburn will kickoff their 2026 season Sept. 5 vs. Baylor.
