Charles Barkley donating $25K to Children’s of Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - One of Alabama’s greatest athletes is donating more than $20,000 to Children’s of Alabama.
Officials say Charles Barkley, a Leeds native, has donated $25,000 to Children’s of Alabama in support of the Regions Tradition giving back to the community.
Barkley has been a long supporter of the hospital, and Children’s Chief Development Officer Chandler Bibb says they are more than grateful to him.
“On behalf of our team at Children’s of Alabama, we are incredibly grateful to Charles Barkley for a $25,000 donation to the hospital as the beneficiary of the Regions Tradition. His continued commitment to the children in our care inspires all of us and we greatly appreciate his generosity.”
In addition to his support of Children’s, Barkley has also been a big supporter of the Regions Tradition golf tournament, making several appearances at the tournament’s celebrity pro-am over the years and supporting the event.
“Charles Barkley has been one of our tournament’s best ambassadors. He first played in our Pro Am in 1993 and has come back almost every year to play in our Pro Am in support of our tournament’s charitable initiatives”, said Eventive Sports president Gene Hallman. “As someone whose family has benefited directly from Children’s of Alabama’s world class services, I am most appreciative of Charles’ donation. His generosity is amazing.”
Regions Bank Birmingham Market president Christian White says Barkley’s donation will make a meaningful difference.
“The Regions Tradition is connecting great golf with strong philanthropy. We are incredibly grateful to Charles Barkley for his generous donation to Children’s of Alabama. This commitment, plus proceeds from this year’s Regions Tradition, will make a meaningful difference for children and families across Alabama. And it speaks volumes about Charles’ unwavering dedication to this community and our state.”
The first round of the 2026 Regions Tradition begins Thursday morning.
