PELHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Police in Pelham have released more details about what led to a man barricading himself into a home Sunday.

The day began at around 10:37 a.m. when police received a report of someone being shot in the foot in the 700 block of Crosscreek Trail.

After learning the suspect, Rodericus Monroe, 52, of Birmingham, was located in a residence on Cahaba Manor Trail and armed, police unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate with him.

Once a search warrant was obtained and executed, police say Monroe was taken into custody.

Investigators believe an argument happened between the victim and Monroe. During the interview, Monroe pulled a gun, took the victim’s wallet and fired the gun, striking the victim’s shoe.

While executing the search warrant at the residence on Cahaba Manor Trail, police found the victim’s wallet and multiple firearms, one of which had been reported stolen.

It is believed the shooting and robbery was an isolated event between two people who are known to each other.

Monroe has been charged with first degree robbery, second degree receiving stolen property and reckless endangerment.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking that if anyone has any additional information to contact the Pelham Police Department.
