12 dogs seized during animal cruelty investigation in Walker County
WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A dozen animals were seized from a home in the Saragossa community in Walker County as an animal cruelty investigation continues.
Sheriff Nick Smith said two deputies were working a separate domestic case on Oakwood Court when Deputy Greenspan saw multiple dogs with little shelter and no visible food or water.
Once the cruelty investigation was launched, seven newborn puppies and five adult dogs were rescued from the property Monday.
Smith said the investigation is ongoing and, if warranted, charges will be filed.

This investigation is just the most recent in a string of animal cruelty cases the Walker County Sheriff’s Office has conducted.
On Feb. 4, a woman in Quinton was arrested on Tugboat Lane after at least four dogs were removed from the area.
Less than a month later, two people were arrested on Ranchero Drive after deputies discovered four severely underfed.
“This incident is part of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office’s continued efforts to address animal neglect and cruelty in our community,” the WCSO said about Monday’s investigation in Saragossa.
This story will be updated if charges are filed in the case.
