ARGO, Ala. (WBRC) - An Argo police officer helped deliver fraternal twins at a home Tuesday morning, Jan. 6, before medical personnel could arrive on the scene.

When Jacklyn Brooks woke up on Tuesday with cramps, she did not realize she would soon experience the biggest surprise of her life.

“I did not know it was happening right then until I was holding Able. Because it didn’t register until after we was already here. And I was like oh my goodness, I’m having babies right now,” she said.

Jacklyn, who was 35 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins, had just delivered her baby boy Able when going to the bathroom. Her husband Adam then called 911.

The first person to arrive was Argo police officer Brandon Junkins.

Officer Junkins responded to a medical call early Tuesday morning, Corporal Sanchez with the Argo Police Department said. When Junkins arrived, he and the children’s father helped deliver both babies.

The twins, a boy and girl, were born before medics reached the scene. The second baby was delivered at 4:26 a.m. The time of the first baby’s delivery is not currently known.

“Thanks to his quick actions and professionalism displayed, two children were safely delivered and are reported to be healthy,” Sanchez said.

The Argo Police Department congratulated the family and extended best wishes as they welcome the new additions.

“The department is proud of Officer Junkins and his dedication to serving the community beyond the call of duty,” the department said.

“The whole process of the cramps, to having the babies, was literally a 30-minute situation. I didn’t labor long at all, it was very unexpected,” she said.

The ambulance arrived, her cords were cut and mom and babies arrived at UAB a few moments later. By that point, Jacklyn said she was in a haze, amazed her twins had arrived.

“It was almost like my body kind of took over. The pain receptors were off, my brain was kinda like oh well this is happening here we go - and it just happened,” she said.

The Brooks said they have cribs built and car seats installed, so just a few finish touches to the nursery once they become a family of six at home.

“Everything happens for a reason. We prayed for these babies. God gave them to us, he brought them into this world in a very smooth and chaotic way,” Jacklyn said.
