Father of missing child in Walker County charged with manufacturing of destructive device, child endangerment

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - The father of a missing 4-year-old in Walker County is in custody, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Nick Smith told WBRC that the father had been taken into custody and charged after explosive materials were found in his home Wednesday.

According to court documents filed Friday in Walker County, Jameson Kyle Boley, has been charged with unlaw manufacturing of a destructive device and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child.

While searching the property in the 7000 block of Highway 195 in north Walker County, WCSO deputies discovered the explosive materials inside the home and suspended the search for Johnathan Boley.

Court documents say Boley had precursor substances with the intent to unlawfully manufacture a destructive or bacteriological weapon.

Smith said Thursday that neighbors claim there have been a lot of explosions in the neighborhood.

“Prior to us being here, the morning before we got out here, there was a report at about four in the morning of a loud explosion,” Smith said.

Smith said the FBI is working with local law enforcement to make sure the area is safe to continue the search.

While no live explosives have been found outside on the property, Smith said there is “evidence that they have had some type of bomb type materials and that have exploded in the on the property.”

Ground searches for Johnathan resumed Thursday morning.
