TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - The Tuscaloosa County Health Department invited the public to a drive-thru clinic, making it easy for people to prepare for this flu season.

It’s late October and flu season has already started, so health officials in Tuscaloosa County encouraged people who hadn’t been vaccinated to come get it done with them.

Staff call this one of their most important community events of the year, which they hold in their parking lot.

People who came to get vaccinated for the flue never had to leave their car.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone six months or older get vaccinated every flu season. Children six months old through the age of eight many need two doses.

It takes around two weeks for protection to develop after a person has been vaccinated.

“We love to see a line because that means you’re getting vaccinated from the flu this year,” said Natalie Quinney, the District Response Team Director for the Alabama Department of Public Health and Tuscaloosa County Health Department spokesperson. “It’s just an important thing that people get their flu shots so that it can protect them and it can protect others around them.”

Anyone needing their flu vaccine can call the Tuscaloosa County Health Department at 205-562-6900 and schedule an appointment.
