BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The new Coca-Cola Amphitheater is gaining many visitors following its grand opening, but some potential visitors want to know more about the accessibility options.

According to the Coca-Cola Amphitheater’s website, they have multiple ways to accommodate people’s needs.

Potential visitors can purchase accessible tickets online. The amphitheater clarified that these do not have to be purchased in person at the Box Office, everything can be handled online.

“We do have accessible seating in every price range but be advised it does occasionally sell out. We have limited seating available for guests on the day of the event, so please make sure you purchase accessible seating when you purchase tickets,” wrote the amphitheater.

Parking

When purchasing accessible tickets, there is also an option to pre-purchase accessible parking passes.

“We have developed a robust accessible parking plan for the Coca-Cola Amphitheater that will allow for scalable accessibility options depending on estimated attendance per show,” wrote the amphitheater.

Parts of this parking plan includes spaces in the N1 and N3 parking deck, per the Coca-Cola Amphitheater website.

Social media representatives for the amphitheater responded to guests’ questions about how they can access the accessible parking, writing, “Upon arrival, let the parking staff know that you need accessible parking and they will direct you to the appropriate location.”

Regardless of if you purchase parking there or if you pre-purchase an accessible parking pass, representatives say you will be required to show your accessible placard to the parking attendant.

The amphitheater also shared that there will be courtesy golf carts available at the corner of 14th Avenue North and 25th Street North and near the N1 and N3 parking decks. These carts will run on a continuous loop before and after the show and operate on a first come, first serve basis. They recommend parking in lots S10, S12, S14, N1 or N3 to access the golf cart’s easiest if you need them.

Accessible entrance and exits

Per the amphitheater’s website, the main entrance into the venue is accessible, as well as the VIP ticket entrance, with ramps at both.

They request if anyone needs special assistance that they use the main, North East Corner entrance, which is closest to the parking. From there, a member of security or a guest ambassador will be able to assist.

Restrooms

According to the amphitheater, all the restrooms are accessible.

There are two restroom buildings located in the main plaza. All of the accessible restroom buildings are reportedly single user and first come, first serve.

Medication or dietary needs

The amphitheater requires anyone who needs to take prescribed medication during their time visiting the amphitheater to bring the medicine inside its original container. The name on the container must be verified by photo ID.

Over-the-counter medication must also be in its original packaging.

The website confirms that there is a variety of food and drink options available but anyone with specific questions or concerns can request to speak with a member of the food and beverage team.

“While we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate dietary requests, we cannot guarantee that they will be able to meet all requests,” wrote the amphitheater.

Service Animals

The Coca-Cola Amphitheater says they have specific guidelines in place to ensure that all guests, including their service animals, are supported throughout their time at the venue.

“Service animals are defined by the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) as dogs or miniature horses that are trained to do work to perform tasks related to people with disabilities. The work or task the service animal is trained to do must directly relate to the person’s disability. Service animals must be housebroken. Service animals are required to behave and not repeatedly bark, growl, jump up on or lunge at other guests or employees. Corrective action must be taken if the service animal is not behaving appropriately,” wrote the amphitheater.

They clarified that dogs whose sole purpose is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under ADA and are therefore not able to attend the event.

All service animals must be under the control of their handler and use a harness, leash or other tether, per the amphitheater’s website.

“Our venue employees are not required to provide for, the care, or supervision of a service animal, including cleaning up after it. Service Animals must remain on the floor and are not allowed on dining chairs or tables in our food and beverage locations. Live Nation and our operating partners have the right to deny access to a dog that disrupts our operations,” wrote the amphitheater.

Effective communication accommodation

Anyone who needs a sign language interpreter, real-time captioning, assisted listening devices or written materials, must submit their request for the accommodation at the least two weeks before their show takes place.

“When you arrive for the show, if you would like assistance getting to your seating area, please check in with the box office or guest ambassador. We would be happy to introduce you to your interpreter for the evening and take you to your seats,” wrote the amphitheater.
