ANNISTON, Ala. (WBRC) - The Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board will be increasing their rates next month.

Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board General Manager Ed Turner says with the demand for supplies and electricity on the rise, more money is needed to maintain the systems that serve you.

Turner says on the average you’ll pay about 50 cents more on your bill per month. He says this is a low increase compared to some other areas. Turner says the extra money will ensure the board can maintain infrastructure and repair leaks. He says being prepared for those leaks could save you money in the future.

“And unfortunately, we have to maintain when emergencies happen, and it does cost money. We had a five-year rate plan, and this is the final year of that rate plan, or excuse me next year is the final year of that rate plan, and then we’ll evaluate it at that point in time. We try to keep it to a minimum. We don’t want to impact our customers when unnecessary,” said Turner.

Turner says he knows this increase may not be small to everyone. He says to call his department if you need more information about these increases.
