Lauderdale Co. woman charged with threatening to shoot Trump at Alabama-Georgia game
LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - A Florence woman faces federal charges after investigators say she posted a threat against President Donald Trump on Facebook ahead of his planned trip to the Alabama-Georgia football game in Tuscaloosa.
The charges against Megan Lorraine Utz were filed on Oct. 8 in federal court in Alabama.
According to investigators, a Huntsville station posted on Facebook on Oct. 2 about Trump’s plans to attend the Oct. 10 game in Tuscaloosa. Around Oct. 5, a Facebook account under the name “Kase Utz” shared that post with the comment: “He’s not allowed in my stadium! I’ll put a bullet through him if he dares.”
Investigators say they linked the account to Utz by matching the profile photo to her driver’s license photo, including a distinctive neck tattoo.
They say records from the social media company also matched her birthday and pointed to Florence.
On Oct. 6, FBI agents, Secret Service agents and Florence police went to the Salvation Army in Florence, where she was last known to be staying. Workers said she had left in a light-blue pickup and might be at a nearby house.
Agents say they found the truck on Midway Street. Utz briefly opened the front door, then shut and locked it, and later ran on foot. Officers caught her about two blocks away.
She was arrested on a separate local warrant for harassing messages. Officers took an iPhone from her.
Investigators say they read her her rights, and she agreed to talk. She told them she had suffered 18 concussions and had taken several prescription medications.
When asked about the post, she said she wanted her phone checked for hacking and blamed malware for the message. She asked officers, “How am I going to shoot him?” Officers sent her phone to an FBI forensics lab for examination.
The court file also mentions earlier run-ins with police, including a 2024 local warrant over harassing messages, a recent theft report where she was listed as a suspect, and being removed from a rehab facility and the Salvation Army.
These are accusations only; she has not been convicted. Utz will be arraigned in Birmingham on Nov. 4.
