Investigators follow up on new leads in 16 year old Tuscaloosa cold case

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Investigators are checking out new leads in the cold case of a 21-year-old jogger shot and killed 16 years ago in Tuscaloosa.
"God just gave him to me for just 21 years and then I had to give him to him back, it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do," said Debbie Jones mom of victim.
Debbie Jones used to live in Alberta near 25th Ave where her son Treavor Jones was last seen alive.
"He'd run around the neighborhood which took him usually around 15 minutes," said Jones.
"A young kid just minding his own business just jogging through the neighborhood and gunned down in broad daylight," said Captain Kip Hart.
Jones vividly remembers the chaos surrounding his death.
"We sat there and watched the lights and the police cars and the paramedics and stuff not knowing it was Treavor they were working on. Why would somebody do this to somebody like a Treavor cause he didn't have an enemy in the world," said Jones.
It's a question investigators can't answer yet because a motive has not been found.
"I mean I wish I can bring closure to their family and I just hope and pray one day before I leave that we'll be able to do that," said Hart.
As the metro homicide unit follows up on new information they've received the last few days, Jones continues to wait.
"Wondering if someone is living the free life while they took Treavor's life," said Jones.
She describes her son as a God fearing energetic young man and says she's forgiven his killer but wants closure.
"Don't take it to your grave and not say something," said Jones.
