Residents want an update on Birmingham CrossPlex developments

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - People living near Birmingham's CrossPlex are asking the city why developments have not moved forward. Council president says Jonathan Austin says they have one shot to get the project right.

"And it's the only shot we have to make sure that the citizens of western Birmingham have the same quality of businesses that the people all over the city get," said Johnathan Austin.

Birmingham's CrossPlex brings in lots of visitors and big bucks to the city, but there's no hotel there for visitors to stay overnight. Counselors say they are working to fix that.

"I'm not opposed to The Comfort Inn and suits, i think we have to be practical, it's affordable for most families who are coming there," said Steven Hoyt.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell's chief of staff says there's nothing wrong with the proposed plan for that hotel.

"We don't have to hide anything from you, that's what's anticipated and coming, I would stay here," said Javis Patton.

People living in the Five Points West area we spoke with say they want more than a Comfort Inn and Suites.

"We do want a quality hotel there," Dora Sims.

They would also like to see more sit down restaurants.

"They're doing a lot of these things in Avondale, they're doing a lot of these things in other parts of Birmingham," Courtney Paulding.
