JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Cooper Green Health Services will be stepping up efforts to address the dental care of poor residents in Jefferson County.
This week Jefferson County commissioners will vote to give $45,000 to Cahaba Valley Health Center. The money will be used to hire a part-time dentist and assistant.
Cahaba Valley had been bringing in volunteers every Sunday but the demand proved to so great that more help was needed during the week.
"Huge amount of people. If you have a hurting tooth, you have a bad day. Many people, every tooth in their mouth is bad because you cannot afford dental care," Edwina Taylor with Cahaba Valley Health Care said.
The new service during the week will start in mid-October. The volunteer program will continue on Sunday, including this weekend.
