Elderly Calhoun County woman raped, suffers heart attack

Calhoun County authorities confirm they're looking for a rapist, whose elderly victim suffered a heart attack during the ordeal.

Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade confirms the 82-year-old woman was raped in her own driveway, sometime around noon on Sunday.

Wade says the woman told investigators a white, late-model car turned around in her driveway, then a man got out. She described the man as in his 40s to 50s, with dark hair and weighing about 250 pounds.

The woman told investigators the man walked up to her as if he were going to ask for directions, then knocked her down on her driveway and raped her. He then left with her purse.

Wade says the woman suffered a heart attack during the ordeal and is scheduled for heart surgery this week. He says that means she won't be able to aid investigators, who had hoped to get an artist's sketch of the man.

Wade says the woman believes the man followed her home as she'd done some shopping at the Dollar General store on Highway 431, but so far investigators haven't been able to confirm that.

Wade urges the public to take extra caution as the man is considered very dangerous, and also asks the public to call the sheriff's office at 256-236-6600 if they have any information on the incident that could help investigators.
