First Alert Weather: Dry for now, but rain returns this weekend
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Our stretch of dry-fall weather continues, but all eyes are on the weekend for our next chance of rain.
As of 9 p.m., temperatures were already in the 50s under a moonlit sky. Lows will range from near 50º to mid 40s in outlying areas.

After the chilly start Tuesday, expect a warmup into the 70s, with sunshine and a light east wind.
THE REST OF THE WORKWEEK: Temperatures will moderate throughout the remainder of the week. We will have plenty of sunshine through midweek, although some high clouds will start to build in at times through Friday. Lows at night will average in the low 50s, with 40s in outlying areas. Highs will be in the 70s. The wind will generally remain out of the east through midweek and become more southeasterly by the weekend.

RAIN CHANCES FOR HALLOWEEN WEEKEND: The next big thing will be the return of showers Saturday. We’ve been incredibly dry and with drought conditions in place, it will take a while for the atmosphere to support wet weather, but eventually some scattered showers are expected to form by Saturday evening.
Right now, I’m seeing the greatest window for higher rain chances between 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. We should be in good shape for events early Saturday like the Magic City Classic Parade. With respect to trick-or-treating, I can’t rule out a few showers, especially west. Ensemble guidance shows high probabilities of at least a half inch of rain this weekend, with 30%-40% probabilities of seeing over an inch of rain in some areas.

The weekend system will leave us in a milder air mass through Monday, and then a cold front arrives Tuesday, with another round of rain and possibly some storms. We could see some wrap-around clouds and lingering scattered showers next Wednesday and Thursday.

TIME CHANGE SUNDAY: A reminder that we “fall back” to standard time Sunday at 2 a.m. This is always a good time of year to check and replace batteries in your alert devices, like smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio.
