NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) — Defensive lineman Jordan Elliott was released by the Tennessee Titans after retrieving a gun from his car following a practice altercation, head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wednesday.

The altercation was with offensive tackle JC Latham, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The incident occurred in the parking lot last week.

Saleh confirmed the details of the incident to reporters on Wednesday, while defending Elliott’s character.

“This is a man who is a father, a great husband,” Saleh said. “He’s never committed a crime in his entire life, and he pulled a gun in the parking lot. The first question that everyone forgets to ask is, ‘Why?’”

Saleh went on to vouch for Elliott as a man and a player, and invited teams who are in need of a defensive lineman to give him a call because Elliott “should be on an NFL roster.”

Team’s initial statement

When the Titans initially announced his removal on Tuesday, the statement only acknowledged that there had been an incident involving Elliott at the team facility. After reviewing the incident, the team decided to release Elliott and did not have further comment.

“On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott,” the Titans said in a statement. “Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster.”

Coach addresses incident

Saleh was first to speak during Wednesday’s press conference and addressed the incident, the team and the league’s response directly.

Elliott was inactive for the Titans’ game on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts before he was released.
