DCH partners in STEM recruitment program holding workshop for teachers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa is playing a major role in what’s known as the STEM program.

STEM is short for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The local STEM council works beyond the acronym by teaching students how to think critically and how to solve problems. The meeting on Friday, July 17, involved five teachers - most of them from Tuscaloosa.

Teachers who teach STEM classes participated in a workshop at the medical center.

“With this program, we recruit local business and industry to host teachers for either one or up to three days to showcase what they do and also with these teachers to highlight those STEM components that are involved in the work that they’re doing as well,” said Rene McNeal, Alabama STEM Council Senior Director.

McNeal said they had teachers from Hillcrest and Bryant high schools in Tuscaloosa and one from Hale County.
