BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) - The Bessemer Police Department has arrested a man in connection to the fatal stabbing of a New Orleans man.

According to Bessemer Fire Chief Kendric Hughley, a charter bus of 40 security guards was stopped on a lunch/snack break at the Bessemer Walmart on Monday, June 15. The bus was heading back to Louisiana.

Police say 22-year-old Darryel Sutton, of New Orleans, had gotten back onto the bus and the suspect, now identified as 35-year-old Pierre Seymour Eskew, of New Orleans, was already on the bus.

According to Bessemer Police, the incident between Sutton and Eskew stemmed over a woman that worked with them. Eskew was allegedly interested in the woman, and she did not return his feelings.

“The altercation had been brewing for several hours, possibly days,” said Sergeant C. Selman with Bessemer Police.

Eskew allegedly stabbed Sutton and two others in the incident. Sutton died from his injuries. As of Wednesday, June 17, one is recovering from minor injuries and the other is in critical condition. The one in critical condition needed surgery to hopefully restore use of their arm, according to Selman.

Eskew was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of menacing and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.
