CARLSBAD, CA. (WBRC) - For the second time in three years, Auburn has reached the top of college golf.

Led by the #1 amateur in the world, Jackson Koivun, the Tigers defeated UCLA in Wednesday’s national championship match at the Omni La Costa resort in Carlsbad, California.

“It’s been so much fun this year with these guys, especially the freshman they have been working their tails off and it showed this week, so, more than happy for me and my team. War Eagle,” said Koivun.

“A lot of heart, a lot of guts, a lot of grit.. Incredible culture. How bout these guys. How bout my two freshman (right there). Got our fans out here… hey, Jackson Koivun could have gone to the PGA Tour last year, but he chose to come back to Auburn for this right here, came back to win Natty, came back for his teammates, and the Auburn family. I can’t be more grateful for our administration, our Athletics Director John Cohen is here, our sports supervisor Joy Vrbka, our staff.. I got the greatest coaches in the world. I’m just very blessed with all the donors and all the resources we have sitting back home too. Very thankful," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard.

The Tigers, who spent most of the season as the #1 team in the county, were the #1 overall seed in the national championship tournament en route to their second ever title.
