‘No trauma or assault’: Autopsy performed on 4-year-old found dead in Walker County

JASPER, Ala. (WBRC) - An autopsy performed Monday morning, Jan. 5, revealed that a 4-year-old found dead in Walker County had no signs of trauma or assault-type injuries.

Sheriff Nick Smith spoke to the media Monday afternoon and said the official results of the autopsy for Johnathan Boley are still pending.

Boley was found Friday afternoon about two miles from his father’s home after a three day search in the Thach community of Walker County.

Smith said he was found partially in a body of water.

Boley was first reported missing on New Year’s Eve prompting a days-long search by hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement from multiple agencies.

The Walker County Emergency Management Agency mapped out grids and search patterns for groups of searchers each day.

The group that found Johnathan, according to Smith, was a group of pure volunteers.

Smith said he spoke with the group that found him.

“They were shook up,” he said. “You know, obviously you come out to do a good deed and when you get our there, you may have thought that you have fully prepared yourself for what you might come across. Obviously they were shaken up.”

Jameson Boley, Johnathan’s father, is facing multiple charges stemming from a search of his home while Johnathan was missing.

Smith said Monday that methamphetamine was also found in the home.

Smith said Jameson was transported to and being held in the Blount County Jail to “keep him separated from the county and people he may know in the jail.”

Upon finding Johnathan’s body Friday, family members were able to meet with Jameson to deliver the news to him.

“I arranged with the sheriff of Blount County to let the family go make that notification in person,” Smith said.
