TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - It’s campaign season in west Alabama, and not just for political office.

Instead, some are searching for big donations going towards the agency that supports dozens of charitable groups.

The United Way of West Alabama just kicked off its annual fundraising campaign. This year, they want to raise a record amount of money with a goal of $4.8 million campaign.

The announcement came during a campaign kickoff event attended by hundreds of people from groups that it supports.

The United Way of West Alabama serves people in a nine-county area.

The money it raises during the campaign will be distributed among 30 partner agencies with specific missions in the communities they serve.

Representatives are asking people and organizations to donate to good causes, but they also want to spread the message about what the United Way of West Alabama does to help others.

“This is the largest campaign goal ever - $4.8 million - that we’re going to try and raise this year,” said Josh Hayes, UWWA Campaign Chairman. “We believe we’ll be successful because of the generous nature of this community. But we really need to meet this goal because prices are rising on everything and that does not discriminate across anyone in our community. Those that need it the most are really being hardest hit.”

The campaign supports agencies like the Boys and Girls Club, Habitat For Humanity, the YMCA and Turning Point among many others.

It runs until Nov. 15 of this year.
