BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - According to court records, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation Director says their investigation into the officer-involved shooting of Jabari Peoples should conclude by Friday, August 1.

SBI Director Chris Inabinett said once the investigation concludes, ALEA will release the SBI’s investigative file, which will include any body-worn camera footage obtained from the City of Homewood.

That file and footage would then be given to the City of Homewood’s Police Department and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr would then determine what, if any, charges would be brought in Peoples’ death, or if it was justifiable.

Carr also previously said he would make sure the Peoples family saw body camera video from that evening when he received it.

The following statement was released by the Peoples family attorney on Wednesday evening after hearing of this update:

“From the moment Jabari was taken from us, his family has battled for transparency. We ultimately had to take that battle to the courts, as a result we are hopeful that the family will gain some transparency on Friday when ALEA concludes their investigation.”

Peoples was shot dead by a Homewood police officer on June 23, 2025.

Family and friends have been vocal since then about the family getting an opportunity to view the body camera video from the encounter.
