ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) - New restaurants and stores are coming to Alabaster!

The project, backed by Liberty Properties, is designed to complement Alabaster’s upcoming recreation center and library, transforming the area into a true city center.

“This is where our folks live. This is the heart of our town, and we really want to see great things happen,” said city administrator Brian Binzer.

This is on the corner of Highway 119 and Thompson Road, and is under construction now.

The 10-year development deal includes a commitment to build at least 20,000 square feet of commercial space, with half of that designated for restaurants.

To support the project, the city is offering up to $3 million in sales tax rebates over the duration of the agreement.

Binzer said the goal is to create a space where residents can eat, shop and enjoy community amenities in one walkable location.

“It’s going to be things like pizza places, burger joints—maybe even a steakhouse,” he said.

As part of the city’s investment in the area, roadwork is already underway.

Crews are widening Thompson Road and Highway 119, adding turn lanes, and installing a new traffic signal to accommodate future traffic.

Residents say they’re excited about the possibilities, especially when it comes to sweet treats.

“Ice cream shop,” said Alabaster resident Ben Harris. “I do like ice cream a lot, and there used to be a Cold Stone in the Promenade, but it shut down. We really haven’t had a good ice cream place.”

City officials say they expect to announce specific tenants by the end of the year.

Construction is scheduled to begin in about a year, with the goal of opening alongside the new recreation center and library in late 2026, or early 2027.
