Tuscaloosa breaks ground on new police logistics building

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - A groundbreaking for the new Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Logistics Building happened on Wednesday, June 11.

City leaders and the police department say the building was sorely needed to house special units like the “SWAT call outs” and “bomb call outs”, according to Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley.

The location is on Reese Phifer Avenue. The cost to build it will be right at $1 million.

City Hall says the funding to pay for the construction is coming from three sources: the American Rescue Plan, Public Safety Contingency Fund, and the city’s general fund.

The city says the new logistics building should be move-in ready by the end of the year.
