Bucky McMillan introduced as Texas A&M’s head basketball coach
COLLEGE STATION, Texas. (WBRC) - Bucky McMillan is officially the head men’s basketball coach at Texas A&M. McMillan, a Birmingham native, was introduced to the Aggies fan base on Monday.
McMillan is now an SEC head coach after a great run at Samford. Over the past four years, McMillan’s Bulldogs won more games in the Southern Conference than any other program. Samford made it to the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
“I’ve always told someone for me to leave [Samford] that I’d have to go somewhere truly special and I felt could compete at a very high level for championships,” McMillan said.
Well, that time has come. McMillan got his start as a coach at Mountain Brook High School, where he led his alma mater to five state championships.
William Galloway graduated from Mountain Brook in 2017 and was a student manager for McMillan’s basketball team.
“I mean he commands excellence from everybody. I was the SID, the manager, announcer. I turned the clock off one day after practice and he made me run. I was the manager... I was dressed just like this, and I was running suicides,” Galloway said.
McMillan takes over a Texas A&M program that was a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament this year under Buzz Williams.
