HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) - Hoover Police have arrested two men in connection to a shooting involving a Hoover High School student.

According to authorities, calls came into 911 at 7:16 a.m. Monday regarding shots fired at the Benton Apartment Homes on Primm Lane.

When they arrived, Hoover Police found a 16-year-old boy had been struck by gunfire while sitting in his vehicle waiting for his family to drive him to school.

The student was taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries. Police say he is still recovering, but remains in stable condition.

According to Hoover PD, two men exited one of the apartments and fired shots at the initial suspects as they were fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Police detained both men at the scene and held them for questioning.

Hoover PD identified the suspects as 21-year-old Marlon Williams and 25-year-old Bryan Mills Jr.

Around 7:50 a.m. Hoover Police were contacted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office regarding a man located at the McAdory Fire Department in McCalla with a gunshot wound.

The man, who police identified as Mills Jr., was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

According to Hoover PD Public Information Officer Lt. Daniel Lowe, Detectives determined Mills Jr. to be one of the suspects who shot into the victim’s car. Police also detained Williams who drove Mills Jr. to the McAdory Fire Department.

According to police, he was driving a vehicle stolen from Hoover in March.

After consulting with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Birmingham, both suspects have been charged with attempted murder. The other two men who were detained have been released and will not be charged at this time.

Detectives say they have not found any evidence to suggest the victim was involved in any activity which led to the shooting and believe he was mistakenly identified as someone else the suspects may have been targeting.

Williams is currently being held in the Hoover City Jail and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail Tuesday.

Students at Hoover City Schools who may have been impacted by this off-campus incident have access to school counselors for support.

Following the news of the shooting, Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato released the following statement:

No mugshot is available for Bryan Mills Jr. at this time. He is currently being processed.

Thursday, Hoover Police released additional information regarding Williams and Mills Jr.

According to officials, Williams is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $500,000. Mills Jr. currently remains in custody at a local hospital and will be taken into custody once he is released from the hospital. His bonds total $440,000.
