Crime Stoppers, Birmingham Police helping students with supplies for upcoming school year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama and members of the Birmingham Police Department are helping get students ready to return to school!

Wednesday, the groups filled 450 backpacks with school supplies that they will distribute to Birmingham City students this Saturday.

“Some kids are not able to afford, their parents are not able to afford especially if they have multiple kids so that’s why the Birmingham Police Department and Crime Stoppers like to provide them with this,” said Lt. Reva Palmer with the Birmingham Police Department.

BPD has been helping with school supplies for four years now, Crime Stoppers got involved after the first year. Bob Copus, Executive Director for Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, said this year ServisFirst Bank supplied the backpacks.

“This is something for young people. This is for your elementary school kids. Give them a positive experience with law enforcement and a positive experience with Crime Stoppers. Realize that Crime Stoppers is the community and we’re all Crime Stoppers,” said Copus.

Parents can pick up a bookbag for their kids Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Birmingham Crossplex from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The student must be present to receive one.
