TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - Now’s the time for people to get their flu shot if they have not been vaccinated for the upcoming flu season and one health department in west Alabama is making it even easier to do so.

So easy in fact that people in Tuscaloosa County this week won’t even have to get out of their cars to get vaccinated. Drivers just need to roll down their window and roll up their sleeve.

The Tuscaloosa County Health Department is hosting a drive-thru flu clinic Wednesday in their parking lot at 2350 Hargrove Road East in Tuscaloosa from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., or until they run out of vaccine.

Organizers say generally 150 to 200 people participate in the drive-thru flu clinic.

“People say ‘just the flu.’ But, it’s not just really the flu,” said Demeta Brown, the Tuscaloosa County Health Department Infection Control Supervisor. “We have a lot of people who die from the flu every year, especially immunocompromised and the elderly. So, they’re our most vulnerable people and they definitely need to get their flu shot.”

No appointment is needed for anyone wanting to participate in the drive-thru flu clinic, but they do need to bring their active Medicaid, Medicare Part B, or Blue Cross Blue Shield card. Folks using Medicare are asked to bring their red, white, and blue card.

Flu shots are $10 for all others.
