Six central Alabama Hardee’s restaurants closed for business Wednesday

GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) - Six Hardee’s restaurants throughout central Alabama closed abruptly Wednesday.

No reason has been given for the closures, but Gadsden Commercial Development Director Lesa Osborn says she'd heard as far back as six months ago the one in her city could close soon. Osborn says she's looking for another fast food restaurant that could occupy the East Gadsden location.

James Menees, the Senior Manager for Internal Communications at CKE Holdings, Inc., which owns Hardee's, confirms the six locations are in Ashland, Anniston (the Wellborn community, just outside Anniston), Chalkville, Gadsden, Jasper and Trussville.

This is in addition to a number of other locations that have known to close over the last couple of years, including Jacksonville, Oxford, Heflin and Pell City.

Signs on the stores advised diners to “Please visit one of our other area locations.” In East Alabama, the sole remaining open Hardee’s appears to be the one in Attalla, just off I-59. Another sign told employees the company is already attempting to contact them about working at other locations.

Several vehicles drove through the parking lots of the Wellborn and East Gadsden locations Thursday as potential drive-through customers were surprised to see the restaurants closed.

James Menees released the following statement to WBRC:

“This week, six independently owned and operated Hardee’s restaurants closed in Alabama. While we understand the disruption this causes, we encourage customers to visit other area Hardee’s locations, which also may have employment opportunities available for impacted employees.”
