Crews respond to gas leak in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Police and firefighters in Birmingham are blocking off several streets while crews respond to a gas leak.
Captain Harrell said Alagasco was working on a gas line 1103 Richard Arrington Junior Blvd. South and broke it. He says they're working to correct the problem. He says they have had to evacuate one of the apartments close to 1103.
Other buildings have been sheltered in place.
Harrell says it will take about an hour to an hour and a half to fix the leak.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue is monitoring the situation with gas meters. They are on scene for precautionary measures.
Officials don't know the size line at this time.
