School identifies family of 4 killed in Blount Co. plane crash
BLOUNT COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A Jackson, Tennessee family has been identified as the victims of a plane crash in Blount County on Saturday.
The University School of Jackson named the victims as two of their students, 14-year-old Jillian and 16-year-old Jacob, and their parents Joseph and Jennifer Crenshaw.
The school released the following statement on its Facebook page:
The FAA and NTSB arrived at the site Sunday morning.
Agencies are in the process of looking at what could have caused the crash. The FAA will look at weather and flight logs to help with its investigation.
Federal agencies are gathering debris to re-create the crash. Blount County officials will continue to guard the debris sites.The debris field is about one mile.
The fuselage is in the area of Highway 160 and Culwell Road. It was 30 yards into a wood line and was found on a slope, headed down toward a ravine.
Officials say there was no fire.
"Our thoughts, immediately when the plane went down, we were in the position to rescue someone," said Kyle Ellison, Assistant Fire Chief at the West Blount Fire Department.
"They might not have been local to our area. This is still a tragedy for our community," said Ellison.
There's no timetable on when all debris will be removed. Blount County officials say all other information will come from the FAA and NTSB.
The EMA is asking that if people living in the area find debris not to disturb it, but to call 205-625-4913 or 911.
