53-year-old man shot, killed on 22nd Ave. W in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A 53-year-old man was shot to death at a home in the 200 block of 22nd Avenue West on Tuesday, according to Birmingham police.

Police identified the victim as Ronald Smith of Birmingham.

Officers responded to a report of a person down at the location around 11:30 a.m. and found Smith in his bedroom, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Sgt. Bryan Shelton said police received the call from someone who came to check on him.

Investigators have learned that the residence is reportedly a location for several illegal activities. Officers are looking into those claims to determine if they are true and how it could be connected to the shooting.

Police are investigating Smith's death as a homicide. No one is in custody at this time.
